Figure in Process
Figuras en Proceso
Producing a work of art is a gradual process. It begins with an idea, or maybe a thought kept in a sketch book for years. The idea might be simply an impulse to create or a need to express that which is within one’s inner self. The search for subject matter, the selection of medium, the combination of methods and techniques, and the comprehensive effort to coordinate and integrate these steps is what the artist ultimately envisions in order to make it all work. The meaning of the work of art is a result of how these components are handled. Sometimes a title communicates the meaning of the art. Ultimately, the viewer must search for the meaning of the work as the viewer sees it.
In this exhibition, a group of five ambitious students from the Azusa Pacific University features a variety of paintings and sculpture. “Figuras en Proceso” presents the human experience of men and women and their emotions represented in a wide range of stylistic approaches, each individualized in expression and rich technical treatment.
