ALBERTA WALKER

I enjoy working in a variety of art mediums but photography holds a special interest for me. Some of my early inspiration came from my father who was a documentary photographer during WWII. After the war he worked in public relations, news paper industry and eventually opened the original El Monte Press.
My early training consisted of some art classes on Saturday mornings at the Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena. This made a great impression upon me to continue my interest in the art arena.
I have always had a fascination with paper goods I was a Collage-Happy-Teen experimenting in 3-D and Op-art forms with all kind of paper goods, textiles, glue and varnish all over the place!
At this point my father opened an Art Gallery on the press building grounds, open to all San Gabriel Valley Artists with receptions held once a month.
After my second year of college I went to work as a fulltime model but soon discovered I preferred the other side of the camera as a Freelance Studio Stylist developing my portfolio in another direction and contributing to the visual aspect of advertising campaigns working on sets, locations sites, pro design and construction, costumes, make-up, etc… I produced some editorials for “Home Magazine”, LA Times, and contributed Christmas ideas to “Better Homes and Gardens” for several years, just to name a few accounts.

I like my paintings to show the excitement I feel about putting colors on paper,
this time I used black to negative paint those colors to reflect Katrina’s
devastation in New Orleans.
